About a month ago, I applied for a position within my company as a Divisional Training Manager.  I waited… and waited.  Finally I got a response and an offer to interview.  The interview was a 5 hour long interview including a presentation, a panel interview, a one-on-one interview with a company SVP, a one-on-one interview with a Director of Training and a one-on-one interview with a Director of Operations.

 I was informed yesterday that I would not be receiving an offer for this position.

 I have to say, this is the first time in my life that I’ve gone after something and did not get it.  It’s a little difficult to understand… I’ve never not gotten what I went for.

 Needless to say, yesterday was a day when I mooped around, racked my brain, thought and re-thought every answer to every interview question.  “Oh, I should have said this” and “Oh, I should have answered this way…”

Today I woke up and kind of milled around my apartment a bit.  I’ve thought a lot about this job.  Both in the past month and the past few hours.  I really wanted this job.  I’m perfect for the job.  But something has held me back.  I’ve decided that while I would be lying to say I’m not disappointed I am in no way discouraged.  I may not have gotten the job this time… but it will be open again.  A job in a similar position will come available again… and this time I will be even more prepared!  I will have an advantage of already going through the process.  I know the players and now I know the game.  I have some work to do preparing myself for the next time… but I’m young and will have plenty of opportunity soon.
